Back In Time: Historic Home

My father and I share a love and appreciation of historic homes. Our latest exploration was of the Charles Shultz House (also known as Evergreens) in Montclair, New Jersey. The house was commissioned by Shultz, who was President of the Hoboken Bank for Savings, and was completed in 1896. Evergreens stayed in the family until 1997 when it given to The Montclair Historical Society.

With a wrap around porch and leaded windows, you could tell that this home had much in store.

The goddess of prosperity serves to welcome guests above the fireplace in the parlor.

This tiled fireplace in the dining room has only two identical tiles. Guess who in the tour group found them first? Why you're right, it was little old me.

At three stories, Evergreens has a great many rooms. Some of which are open to the public while other doors are kept shut...

What would be referred to as a family room today features an oriental rug and gramophone (in the back right corner).

When Charles came back from his work as a banker, he used this room to indulge in his fascination of science, technology, and invention.

This is a view of the back of the home. I'm wearing a tee shirt and jeans from Aeropostale, a blazer by LC Lauren Conrad, and carrying a vintage Coach backpack.

This ivy covered well is very magical and romantic looking to me.

This nearly untouched home provides a wonderful idea of the feel and style of the area in the late 1800s.
